It’s inevitable, whatever the future entails, technology will gradually weasel its way more into our lives. So it’s surely natural progress that there are now apps that allow you to pay for your restaurant bill instantly from your seat. This is particularly handy at busy bars where the bartenders are swamped.
Thus, I was curious to give Clipp a go – the benefit about Clipp is that you can save up to 40% off your bill at venues if you spend over a certain amount. You just need to check what deals are on on the app, as per the below screenshot.
I was lucky enough to give Boilermaker House a try, as it’s been a while since this speakeasy, whisky bar opened across from work. I loved the vibe, from the tunes to the paintings on the walls, my cocktail booklet and my cutlery chest.
As a whisky bar with over 700 whiskies, plenty of corporates were in for a drink and a talk after work. Our host was very helpful and attentive, although we were both still getting the hang of Clipp. After I clicked “Join a Clipp” on the Boilermaker House profile, it gave me a table number and allowed me to see everything I ordered.
I had a promo code from the Clipp team and it automatically applied when I went to pay at the end of the night.
To start, I chose the Cider House Rules from the extensive cocktail list, which had a dainty piece of lavender clipped to the side. It was sweet and easy to drink for a person like me who doesn’t drink a lot! Although I think next time I would like to try a Boilermaker, one shot of whisky with a pint of beer to open up the palette.
On Wednesdays you can get $1 natural oysters, so we ordered a dozen and even tried some with a few drops of Laphroaig scotch whisky in them – delicious!
My love for eggplant also ensured I ordered the eggplant and chickpea dip with zucchini, which I loved and found more filling than I expected. The corn chips also matched perfectly.
The Adventouriist ordered the rump steak medium rare, although she found it more on the rare side.
I ordered the venison burger with BBQ sauce, cheese and pickles. I had heard a lot about this burger – it was indeed a very decent feed but not the one of the top burgers I’ve tried. As a whisky bar, this is more of a bar to drop in and chat with your friends over a drink, some cheese and cured meat.
The atmosphere and the service was great, so I’d love to drop by again for more drinks, oysters and nibbles. At the end of the night, I chose to “Close” my tab on the Clipp app, where it allowed me to review my tab and then pay with my card details. I informed the waitress to ensure this had gone through and it worked seamlessly. I was also emailed an invoice with a detailed tab.
As the app develops, I look forward to it getting to a point where we become more familiar and confident with its processes, but the possibilities with the Clipp app are exciting and I look forward to seeing what new venues sign on!
