From On High
From the high ratings and location of From on High, one might be expecting a large, spacious venue.
It was nice to discover that it was on a quieter part of High St and that it was a small shop that looked like your everyday local.
The menu had standard items but with unique elements to draw you in. From yoghurt to pikelets to eggs on toast – there was something for everyone and it provided a homely vibe.
My sweet tooth got the better of me, so I ordered the apple and cinnamon ‘waffins’ from the specials. I’m not a big cinnamon fan but there was just a dash and it was matched well with the fruitiness and fragrance of the other ingredients.
The most Instagrammable item (I believe that’s a thing now?) was definitely the pikelets stack accompanied by chocolate soil, berries, vanilla marscapone and honeycomb.
It was beautifully plated and the pikelet size meant you could enjoy this meal without becoming overwhelmed by decadence.
If you’re wondering what this delicious pile is, it’s From On High’s take on Eggs Benedict. Instead of toast, they use a pile of potato hash topped with leg ham pistachio and date terrine and orange blossom saffron hollandaise. If I was after something savoury, I would have definitely considered this dish.
Like most Melbourne establishments, the menu may alter slightly due to what is in season. This visit occurred very early this year during summer – so make sure to keep up to date with the latest menu here.
I enjoyed the local-small-shop vibes, there was nothing pretentious about it and there was more than just a standard menu. They also have a new cafe called Hard Pressed in East Melbourne – if you’ve been there, let me know what you think!
From on High is located at 412 High St, Prahran and is open weekdays 7am-4pm and weekends 8am-4pm.
